Special Initiatives

Introduction

Every year, the Women's Leadership and Resource Center organizes special initiatives that address current events and complement our signature program series. Check out some of our most recent ones:

From 2016 to 2024, WLRC and Chicago Sister Cities International co-hosted this intensive summer leadership program for teenage girls from around the world.
  • Clothesline Project
For Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month 2023, we hosted multiple artmaking events and a culminating exhibition of work sharing survivors' stories of harm and healing.

    The Breathing Room
As UIC moved to remote operations during the pandemic, we used this space to share reflections, creative and scholarly endeavors, and activity ideas–on this webpage, on our social media, and in weekly Zoom sessions.
  • Sounds of Feminism
Want to learn more about feminism? Every week for a semester, we shared critical feminist conversations and insights on key concepts, ideas, and debates that shape our everyday lives.
  • Dr. Sonya McDonald on a dark red background with
    Let Our Rejoicing Rise
In commemoration of Black History Month 2021, and in recognition of how Black women’s voice and performance have been important to Black struggle and resistance, we celebrated the Black National Anthem, “Lift Every Voice and Sing."
